This invention relates to a novel cross-sectional profile for bubble levels for improved application and alignment on edges. The object of the invention is to configure the profile of a bubble level such that reliable extension and rendering (transmitting) of edges is made possible in conjunction with a laser. This object is achieved in that grooves (4, 5) and (6, 7), respectively, are applied into the bearing edges of the bubble level (2, 3) in such a way that their surfaces extend axially parallel to the laser axis (1) and the markers (4, 6) produced by the grooves are located at the height of the laser axis (1). In the case of an originally square bubble-level profile with central laser, the marker formed by the groove extends in the middle of the bearing edge. A further V-shaped groove (8, 9) is applied into the profile such that the laser axis (1) is located in the intersection axis of the two groove surfaces (8, 9). As a result of this, during application onto the object edge to be rendered, it is extended directly through the mid-point of the laser. The limb length is in this case selected such that, when applying the profile by the edges (10, 11) onto a planar surface, the distance (d) from the laser axis (1) to the surface is equal to the distance (d1, d2) from the laser axis to the application surfaces (5, 7). The offset to be taken into account therefore always has the same value independently of application variations. <IMAGE>
