A frame for producing an item of jewellery or the like is described. The frame (C) is a generally ring-shaped axially-open concave hollow member (5) with a wider rear opening (5c) for receiving an inserted stone (1) and a narrower front opening (5d) having a rim (5f) for supporting the visible portion (1b) of the stone. Said frame comprises a hoop (9) located within the ring-shaped member for engaging the rear surface of the stone, and at least one deformable block (6) of excess material arranged in the ring-shaped member and forming a retaining member (2) hooked over said hoop. Said frame is particularly useful for producing rings and earrings.
