Illumination unit for illuminated signs

The invention relates to an illumination unit with low current consumption for illuminated signs. The illumination unit comprises a housing (1) for receiving a multiplicity of light-emitting diodes (4). The housing has four lateral surfaces (1.1-1.4) and two mutually opposite main surfaces (1.5, 1.6). There is furthermore provided a mounting base (2) which is attached to a first lateral surface (1.1) of the housing. The other lateral surfaces (1.2, 1.3, 1.4) of the housing are enclosed by a groove (3) in whose bottom region (3.1) there are provided a multiplicity of openings (5) in which the multiplicity of light-emitting diodes (4) are arranged. The illumination unit can be used, instead of conventional filament lamps, as light source in any illuminated signs. It is distinguished by low current consumption and by a high service life. Mounting takes place, with screw cap or bayonet cap, in existing illuminated signs by simple insertion into the sockets present.
