Conventionally, especially for medium- and large-format paintings, picture frames are used which consist of a combination of wedge-type frame and fabric. In these frames, the slackened tensioning of the fabric in the wedge-type frame which occurs over the course of time is corrected again by retensioning; this is done by knocking wooden wedges into the slit regions of the unglued plug-type connections. This laborious tensioning operation requires the removal of the painting from its frame, or at least the taking-down of the whole article, in order to be able to carry out the retensioning of the back. In the functional combination of the new construction kit picture frame with the picture support, the tensioning mechanism is provided directly, with very user-friendly assembly of the unit as a whole. In order to be able to use the combination of picture frame and tensioned wedge-type frame for tensioning the latter, the combination is to be produced in the axis or plane of the painting. By tightening the screws which ultimately create the combination, the fabric is tensioned by splaying the wedge-type frame with tensile or compressive stress thereon. This functional combination facilitates and improves the retensioning of such picture media. This picture frame is suitable, because of its special combination with the tensioned wedge-type frame, for the comprehensive tensioning of all pictures so designed.
