A parapet element, in particular for balconies on buildings, is designed as a flexurally rigid box-shaped element which exhibits, on the side remote from the building, a panel of organic or inorganic glass and, in the interior, utilisation means for absorbing, converting and discharging the radiation energy of visible and invisible light. It is intended, in addition to the conventional function of the balcony parapet, to permit utilisation of the solar energy.
