In order to deflect workpiece carriers (4) within a mounting system from one transporting belt onto another, the workpiece carriers (4) have, up until now, been stopped and actively moved into the new direction or have been moved into the new direction merely by way of the drive, by the transporting belt with corresponding guide. In accordance with the invention, by means of a rotary drive (6) which contains a stop member (7), the workpiece carrier (4) is gripped at a carry-along member (9) and is actively rotated into the new direction via the rotary drive (6). In this arrangement, the workpiece carrier (4) is rotated quickly without being stopped and the kinetic energy present within it is utilized. <IMAGE>
