Method for mounting a motor vehicle heat accumulator having a latent-heat storage mechanism (PCM device mechanism) which has a latent-heat storage container as well as a packet of latent-heat storage cells therein, and having a heat accumulator housing which encloses the latent-heat storage mechanism with an underpressure isolation interspace. The latent-heat storage mechanism is prefabricated with the packet of latent-heat storage cells. The prefabricated latent-heat storage mechanism is inserted into the heat accumulator housing, which is provided with a housing bottom. The unit consisting of the heat accumulator housing and latent-heat storage mechanism is inserted into an underpressure chamber which has a device for mounting the housing lid. The housing lid is mounted on the heat accumulator housing in the evacuated underpressure chamber. The heat accumulator housing is connected to the mounted housing lid in a sealing fashion by means of a soldering operation. At least one high-vacuum getter element which requires to be activated is inserted into the heat accumulator housing on the side of the housing lid. The high-vacuum getter element is activated during the soldering operation for connecting the housing lid to the heat accumulator housing when the soldering temperature is reached. The activation is not carried out until the insulation underpressure has reached a prescribed desired value.
