A pulp mould of low weight and a production method for this, and a formed pulp article with a smooth surface and a production method for this are disclosed. The pulp mould (100) has a multiplicity of plate pieces (101 to 108) which are combined with one another by means of welding to form a body. A plurality of passage openings (111) are formed in the plate pieces (101 to 108). These passage openings have a diameter which is not larger than 2.0 mm and are formed at a spacing which is not less than 0.05 mm and not more than 2.0 mm. The open area ratio of the passage openings is not less than 8.8% and not more than 75%. The pulp mould can be formed by means of using a plate made of superplastic material which is deformed superplastically.
