The invention relates to a process for the preparation of methylchlorosilanes by cleaving methylchlorodisilanes in the presence of an alkylaminetrialkoxysilane on silicon dioxide carrier as catalyst. Methylchlorosilanes are obtained when silicon is reacted with methyl chloride in a Müller-Rochow synthesis. The resulting high-boiling residues are mainly composed of methylchlorodisilanes, which can be converted into methylchlorosilanes by means of cleavage.
