The windscreen wiper arm comprises a casing (1) which is articulated on a head (3) and fixed by a nut (5) on the threaded portion (21) of a control shaft (2). The casing has a hole (13) for the passage of a nut tightening tool (6). A hollow flexible retainer (7), comprising flexible legs located around the casing hole, maintains the nut temporarily fixed to the casing in a raised position above the head. This ensures that when fitting the head on the control arm the nut is at the top of the shaft threaded portion. Initial screwing of the nut disengages the nut from the retainer.
