A thin object (3), such as a map, is held by a clamp (1) integral with the dashboard in place of an unused control button. The clamp is formed from a palette (11) pivoted on a support (12) about a spindle (15). The palette can pivot between open and closed positions. The palette has a cam (17) on its rear face which engages a return spring (16). The palette support is fixed in a reception part (14) fixed to the dashboard. The palette has a portion (11a) supported on the dashboard and a portion (11b) inclined towards the vehicle interior opposite to the supported part.
