Damping device

A damping device is proposed in which two walls (9, 10) movable relative to one another define a damping space (13) from which a fluid is displaced via an outflow opening (15) during a damping section of the relative movement between the two walls (9, 10). A regulating member (18) which can be adjusted for the variable presetting of the outflow cross-section is allocated to the outflow opening (15). There is an actuating member (23) for the adjusting drive of the regulating member (18). Of the two members (18, 23), one is designed as a magnet device (24), while the other is made of an electrically conductive material (25). The members (18, 23) are designed and arranged in such a way that they interact with one another according to the principle of an eddy current brake while the damping section of the relative movement between the two walls is being covered, the regulating member (18) predetermining different outflow cross-sections of the outflow opening as a function of the speed-dependent induction which occurs. In this way, damping of the movement is obtained, during which the relative speed of the two walls (9, 10) is automatically taken into account. <IMAGE>
