The optical force measuring device consists of a crystalline solid material (101) which has both photoelastic and laser-active properties and which carries at its ends the resonator mirrors (104, 105) and thus forms a monolithic optical sensor oscillator. By means of a radiation source (102) and an input coupling optics unit (103), the photoelastic sensor oscillator is excited into laser activity. If a force F acts in the orthogonal direction with respect to the resonator axis on the material, which is connected to a rigid frame (100) which leads out the forces, the coupled-out frequency components nu 1 and nu 2 then change and, in terms of their difference, form a force-dependent signal. The optical force measuring device, having a frequency-analog output signal and a large measuring range, can be used to measure the force or a measured variable derived therefrom, such as acceleration or mass. <IMAGE>
