The invention relates to an exhaust system for an internal combustion engine in which an exhaust line contains a catalytic converter, arranged close to the internal combustion engine and downstream of a device through which exhaust gas flows, together with an exhaust valve closing the exhaust passage, with a bypass line of smaller diameter than the exhaust line for bypassing the device, which is designed as cooling front silencer.
