When jumps occur in the level of the received signal (1a) or in selected components thereof, the sequences received before and after a jump (1b) are compared with sequenced corresp. to the signal statistics. When the sequence shows an isolated increase (1c) or decreases (1d), jumps in excess of a defined threshold are identified as errors in transmission if their value deviates from the statistically expected sequence. A probable correct scale factor is easily substd. either by extrapolation from the preceding value or by interpolation between values accepted as correct. ADVANTAGE - Detection at receiver is improved esp. for errors in particular signal components.
