This invention is a ligament mounting (10) and method for endosteal mounting an end of a ligament graft (21) in a prepared bone tunnel section (26, 27) in a procedure to replace a patient's ligament. The ligament mounting includes a strap (11) and footing (15) combination which may, for some embodiments, be of a material which is absorbed by the patient's body during the healing process. Formed as a straight section, the strap includes a proximal end for passage through the footing, which is to be arranged across a cortex end of the ligament tunnel section, and a distal end for receiving the ligament graft or a suture or sutures (20) connected to the graft end. The strap and footing are formed to allow passage of the strap through the footing in one direction and, by a locking arrangement (13), to prohibit the strap from being pulled back through the footing.
