A mount plate (P) for the cradle (C) of a telephone has a forward and upwardly inclined projecting boss (22) with a concave surface (24) through which a traverse slot (30) is provided. An enlarged access opening (32) is provided in the traverse slot (30) for receiving a nut (18) loosely secured on a bolt (16) passing through the cradle (C). By sliding the nut (18) and bolt (16) from the access opening (32) along the slot (30), a cam surface (38) of the traverse slot (30) automatically rotates the nut (18) into proper orientation to hold it between constraining rails (34, 36) along the underside of the slot (30) enabling tightening of the bolt (16) relative to the nut (18). The access opening (32) is sized and configured such that the nut (18) can be received through the opening (32). Once rotated into the tightening position, the nut (18) can also be tightened in underlying relation to the opening (32), affording a substantial range of movement of the cradle (C) along the traverse slot (30).
