A tetrahydronaphthalene derivative, represented by general formula (I), useful as remedies for retrovirus infection and other diseases wherein R1 to R3 represent each lower alkoxy, or two adjacent groups selected among R1 to R3 are combined together to represent lower alkylenedioxy; R4 to R6 represent each hydrogen, hydroxy, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or optionally substituted benzyloxy, or two adjacent groups selected among R4 to R6 are combined together to represent lower alkylenedioxy; X1 and X2 represent each hydrogen or halogen; and R7 and R8 represent each methyl, hydroxymethyl, mesyloxymethyl, tosyloxymethyl, lower alkoxycarbonyl or optionally substituted aminoacyl, or R7 and R8 are combined together to represent any of the groups (a), (b), (c), (d), (e) or (f).
