CONSTITUTION: The metal halide lamp provides the coating 9 of the metal oxide of titanium or cerium on the outside surface of a discharge tube 2. The temperature of the coating at the time of burning is 600 deg.C at least, and the weight of the coating is generally 0.30 mg/cm<2> . The coating 9 is provided as an intermediate step during the production of the discharge tube 2.
