PURPOSE: To obtain a digital/analog converter(DAC) in which an idling noise can be reduced, and a method for reducing the idling noise in the DAC. CONSTITUTION: A DAC 20 includes a data converter 21 sensitive to an idling noise. The idling can be generated when the DAC 20 receives an idle pattern being a digital input signal corresponding to an analog zero level. The DAC 20 generates the output of the converter 21 as an output signal while it receives a non-idle input pattern. After the DAC 20 continuously detects the ideal pattern during a first prescribed time period, the DAC 20 generates the analog zero level as an output signal. The DAC 20 generates output of the converter 21 as the output signal again in a second prescribed time after the idle pattern disappears. Preferentially, the first prescribed time is made correspond to the propagation delay of the converter 21, and the second prescribed time period is made correspond to the half of the propagation delay of the converter 21.
