PURPOSE:To accurately perform drying of ink by radiation heat and achieve the improvement of printing quality without decreasing apparatus efficiency by providing a shield plate which shields heating source and controlling this. CONSTITUTION:Ink particles 6 injected from an ink jet head 1 deposit on paper. The ink is dried by radiating the paper surface with a radiation heating source 7. The paper is conveyed in the arrow direction by rollers 4, 5 and printing is accomplished. Here, in such a case when printing is not performed for a long time and the paper stops when, for example, the printer is used in conversation mode, a shield plate 8 is moved to the position of a dotted line to cut off radiation heat and prevent heat from reaching the paper, thus preventing adverse influence to the paper. Controlling the shield plate which shields the heating source in this way enables drying of the ink by radiation heat to be surely accomplished and enables printing quality to be improved without decreasing the efficiency of the apparatus. |
