Synthesis of hydrogen perfluoroalkanes

The invention relates to the synthesis of hydrogenperfluoroalkanes RFH, RF denoting a perfluoroalkyl radical containing 2 to 20 carbon atoms, by reaction of the corresponding perfluoroalkyl iodide RFI with an alkali metal hydroxide. The use of methanol as solvent allows the formation of tars to be avoided, an almost total conversion of RFI and an RFH of excellent purity to be obtained, and the alkali metal iodide by-product to be recovered easily.
