PURPOSE: To obtain a material useful both for photographic technique and to form a diagnostic image as a film for exposure with laser and having high speed, high Dmax, high efficiency, low Dmin and low fog. CONSTITUTION: This IR sensitive photothermic photographic article is an IR sensitive photothermic photographic silver halide element with a layer of a photothermic photographic compsn. contg. a binder, a nonphotosensitive silver source, a reducing agent for silver ions and IR sensitive silver halide particles and an antihalation layer on at least one face of the substrate. The silver halide particles have <0.10μm number average particle size and at least 80% of all the particles are within the range of (average value)±0.05μm. In the antihalation layer, the ratio of IR absorption before exposure to visible light absorption after exposure is >30 and the layer has IR absorption of at least 0.3 in the range of 750-1,400nm and optical density of <0.03 in a visible region.
