PURPOSE:To enable a computer which belongs to one of two network systems, having file managing means differing in file managing method, to access a file that a computer belonging to the other system has. CONSTITUTION:A file operation program 11 which runs on a work station(WS) belonging to both the 1st and 2nd systems transfers a target file 5 that an WS1 belonging to the 1st system has to a hard disk 14 connected to the WS 7 according to an instruction from a file access request program 19 running on a personal computer 17 belonging to the 2nd system and then the personal computer 17 can access the target file 5 transferred to the hard disk 14.
