OPTICALLY COUPLED ELEMENT AND ITS MANUFACTURE

PURPOSE: To provide an optical coupling element and its production which relax the degree of allowance of alignment between the acting part of a light emitting element and the core area of a waveguide to improve the productivity. CONSTITUTION: A core area 107 having an end part 114 and a clad area 108 are formed. The clad area 108 encloses the end part 114 of the core area 107 and forms a surface 119 having a lens device 102. The end part 114 of the core area 107 is so positioned that the distance from the lens device 102 to the end part 114 of the core area 107 of a waveguide 101 is a selected value. A light emitting element 103 having an acting part 104 is attached to the surface 119 of the clad area 108, and the acting part 104 of the light emitting element 103 is oriented on the lens device 102 so that light 109 from the light emitting element 103 is converged and focused on the end part 114 of the core area 107.
