PURPOSE:To provide a practical fluorescent lamp lighting device that can start the fluorescent lamp at low voltage and that can drastically improve the efficiency to save power. CONSTITUTION:A detection means 80 for detecting the starting of a fluorescent lamp 2 is provided. A control means 13 is also provided, by which high frequency voltage of no less than 50KHz is applied at the time of starting the lamp to start the lamp at low voltage, and by which lighting is maintained by energizing at high frequency voltage of less than 100KHz and of the frequency lower than that of the starting time, after the starting of the lamp is detected by the detection means. The difference between a no-load voltage and the lamp voltage is reduced by means of low voltage starting, and power can be saved. Abnormally high voltage induced by a capacitor ballast type lighting system can also be prevented, while the size of the device can be reduced and the insulation grade can be reduced. In addition, the radio noise transmitted through a power line and the electric wave noise obstruction radiated from the fluorescent lamp can be reduced. |
