The jewelry clasp comprises a housing having parallel side walls connected to the bottom of the housing, and having one end open. A hook member with a top surface coplanar has its tops of the parallel side walls pivotally mounted in the housing and having a hookk at its outer ends. Spring member is located inside the inner end of the housing, and maintained in position by its upper end abutting against a projection formed at the bottom surface of the inner end of the hook member and by its lower end abutting against a detent in the bottom said inner end of said housing. A latch member is insertable into the housing and provided with an indentation engagable with the hook and a stop member abutting against the outer end of the bottom of the housing in the closed position of the jewelry clasp. The jewelry clasp is maintained in a closed position upon insertion of the latch member into the housing and is opened upon direct application of downward pressure to the top of said inner end of said hook member, thereby releasing the latch member.
