Appts. for prodn. of a bevelled cut in a workpiece having planar parallel first and second surfaces comprises first and second frames with a cutting knife supported by the first frame and an arrangement attachable to the second frame to hold the workpiece with its first surface facing the knife. A pivot is attached to one frame which pivots the cutting knife and workpiece relatively about a pivot point lying in the plane of the first surface of the workpiece while a translation device attached to one frame moves the cutting knife and workpiece relatively with the pivot point remaining in the plane of the first surface of the workpiece relatively with the pivot point remaining in the plane of the first surface of the workpiece. A control system sends translation signals to effect translation of the workpiece and cutting knife relatively to cut along a preselected entrance path on the first surface and pivot signals to effect pivoting of the cutting knife makes a bevelled cut in the workpiece along the preselected path. Also claimed is the method of cutting a workpiece using the apparatus above and the same method where the knife is a jet of fluid.
