The invention relates to a cross-cut device for cutting a paper trimmings web and forming part of a printing machine severing device. The device comprises a cutting roll 1 and a counter roll 2, between which the paper trimmings web 19 runs and which rotates at a peripheral speed corresponding to the rate of advance of the paper trimmings web. A cutter edge 3 has been fixed to an edge bar 4, which in turn has been fixed to the cutting cylinder 1 by means of lever arms 5, 6, the lengths and points of articulation of which have been selected so that the plane surface 14 of the edge 3 lies essentially perpendicular to the paper trimmings web 19 during the period of the cutting movement. The counter-edge 9 has also preferably been designed to move in such a way that the edge of the counter-edge advances essentially in a straight line in the horizontal plane during the cutting period. <IMAGE>
