The log measuring appts. incorporates at least two contact-free distance meters (13,14) using light beams and arranged on different sides of the trunk (11). The meters transmit measurement beams in such a way that in a data unit the position of the measurement points can be determined.In the prodn. of a timber piece such as a centre block or a centre post which has at least two reciprocally parallel flat long sides limited by four longitudinal edges, and which in cross-section has four corners (A,B,C,D) corresp. to its longitudinal edges and two diagonals (M,N) which join counterposed corners, the distance meters are arranged to transmit measurement beam bunches (13') toward the trunk top end area, which are so directed and so wide in the trunk cross-section plane that they meet the trunk over surface at measurement points (13a) located within continuous measurement areas extending on opposite sides of each of the four points at which the diagonal extensions (M') intersect the trunk cover surface. |
