PURPOSE:To obtain a new compound having high activity as an active ingredient for pest-controlling agents such as insecticides, miticides, nematocides or soil pest-controlling agents. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I (A is pyridyl, thienyl or furyl) or a salt thereof, e.g. N-(2-pyridylmethyl)-4-trifluoromethylpyridine-3-carboxamide. The compound of the formula I can be obtained by reaction of a 4- trifluoromethylpyridine-3-carboxylic acid of formula II or a reactive derivative therefrom with a compound of formula III in the presence of a common solvent, as necessary, further in the presence of a base.
