PURPOSE:To provide a method for producing an optical fiber preform having equal diameter in the longitudinal direction by uniformalize the flow of a waste gas from a reaction chamber. CONSTITUTION:In the outside fitting and producing method for optical fiber preform for producing the optical fiber by moving burner 4 back and forth along a starting rod 2 in the reaction chamber 3 and depositing and growing a soot around the starting rod 2, plural discharge ports E1, E2, E3,... are successively provided along the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber preform 1 at the opposite side of the burner 4 in the reaction chamber 3 and the quantity of the waste gas from the discharge ports E1, E2, E3,... is controlled to make the soot optimum shaped. |
