PHENOL RESIN COMPOSITION AND FRICTION MATERIAL MADE USING THE SAME

PURPOSE:To obtain a phenol resin composition which has high frictional resistance with reduced wear loss and is hence suited for use as a binder for a fibrous base in producing a friction material. CONSTITUTION:This resin composition comprises 1-50wt.% fluorinated or carboxylated (meth)acrylate copolymer having a number-average mol.wt. of 5,000-50,000 and a glass transition temp. of 0-50 deg.C and 50-99wt.% phenol resin. The friction material contains this composition.
