This device comprises a rigid articulation pin (15) on a slide which is mounted slidingly along a mast, means (16) of connection of said pin (15) to said sail (2) essentially in prolongation of said batten (35), stop means (33) which are integral translationally with said means (16) of connection and capable of receiving supportingly one end of said batten, and screw/nut means (15, 17) for regulating the compression of said batten by translational displacement of said stop means (33) in relation to said means of connection (16), characterised in that said means of connection comprise at least one hooking member (16) carried by said articulation pin (15) and capable of being received through an eye (23) of said sail, and in that said means of regulation comprise a tubular element (17) forming a nut mounted rotationally on a threaded part (19) forming a nut of said pin (15), said tubular element bearing said stop means (33, 36). <IMAGE>
