The invention relates to a device for charging electric batteries. The device comprises means (41) for supplying a charging current (I) to the battery (2). It also comprises a microprocessor (42), which is connected to a memory (45), interfaces (43) and means (44) for reading the voltage (U) across the connections of the battery (2). Stipulations are stored beforehand in the memory (45). The magnitude of the charging current (I) is controlled by the microprocessor (2) with the interposition of interfaces (43), the charging current being a function of the voltage across the connections of the battery (2), which voltage is read by the microprocessor (42), and of a specification which is read by the microprocessor (42) in the memory (45). <IMAGE>
