Automatic trouser-dividing method and automatic device for the fastening of belt loops with improved tension control and seam recording

A method and a device for dividing the band (W) of a pair of trousers in belt-loop fastening positions on the sewing station of a sewing machine are disclosed. A stepping motor (84) is connected as a drive to a divider-clamp device (70) which comes into engagement with the end portion of the trouser band. The stepping motor drives the divider-clamp device (70) and draws the trouser band through the sewing station (12). A detector (40) with double rollers (60) is connected pivotably to corresponding lever arms. A signal-generating device (66) records the presence of a band seam and transmits a signal to a control device (100) which coordinates the position of the side seam as a reference point with the desired fastening positions of belt loops. The control device (100) transmits a stop signal to the stepping motor (84) whenever one of the successive belt-loop fastening positions arrives at the sewing station. The control device (100) actuates a belt-loop feed system which supplies a belt loop to the sewing station. The belt loops are fixed to the trouser band by means of press foots. The belt loops are sewn onto the trouser band when one of the successive belt-loop fastening positions arrives at the sewing station. <IMAGE>
