An improved enzymatic process for reacting glycolic acid and oxygen in an aqueous solution in the presence of aminomethylphosphonic acid wherein the improvement comprises using a microbial double-transformant cell catalyst that expresses two exogenous enzymes, glycolate oxidase and catalase. By intentionally selecting the exogenous catalase from sources such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae or Aspergillus niger, a heretofore unrecognized inhibition of the catalase by aminomethylphosphonic acid is alleviated.
|
