The present invention relates to a process and an apparatus for treating liquids which are to be subjected to a physical, chemical or biological treatment or conversion process. In order to create a process and an apparatus which, with relatively simple means and without great expenditure in terms of apparatus, contribute to an acceleration of the processes which proceed or are to proceed in liquids of this type, according to the invention it is proposed with respect to the process that the liquid is circulated using a centrifugal pump at the outlet of which is provided a throttle piece to increase the outlet pressure of the pump. With respect to the apparatus having a centrifugal pump which has a housing which has a suction port arranged axially on the housing (1) and a pressure port (5) arranged at the periphery of the housing (1) and which has an impeller (2), according to the invention it is proposed that a throttle device (3) is provided in the region of the pressure port (5) of the centrifugal pump. <IMAGE>
