Compounds of formula (I) wherein R1 is C5-9 cycloalkyl, phenyl optionally substituted by one or two moieties selected from the group consisting of halogen, C1-C3-alkyl, C1-C3-alkoxy, benzyloxy, hydroxy, and trifluoromethyl, 2- or 3-thienyl, 2- or 3-furanyl, 2-, 3-, or 4-pyridyl, or a salt or hydrate thereof, are useful as purine nucleoside phosphorylase (PNP) inhibitors.
