Automatic trouser-dividing method and automatic apparatus for the fastening of belt loops

A method and an apparatus for dividing the waistband of trousers (W) in belt-loop fastening positions at the sewing station of a sewing machine are disclosed. A stepping motor (84) is connected as a drive to a divider clamping device (70) which comes into engagement with the end portion of the trouser waistband. The stepping motor drives a divider clamping device (70) and draws the trouser waistband through the sewing station (12). A detector (40, 44) records the presence of a waistband seam and transmits a signal to a control device (100) which coordinates the position of the side seam as a reference point with the desired fastening positions of belt loops. Whenever one of the successive belt-fastening positions arrives at the sewing station, the control device (100) transmits a stop signal to the stepping motor (84). The control device (100) actuates a belt-loop feed system which feeds a belt loop to the sewing station. The belt loops are fixed to the trouser waistband by means of press feet. The belt loops are sewn to the trouser waistband when one of the successive belt-loop fastening positions arrives at the sewing station. <IMAGE>
