The application relates to a method and an arrangement for the visual monitoring of persons requiring care, particularly small children, and in which an image signal recorded by a video camera directed towards the person requiring care is supplied to a compression-type signal processing device, the compressed image signal being transmitted via a transmission device to a monitoring location, where it is received by a receiving device and forwarded by the receiving device to a further signal processing unit for decompressing the transmitted image signal. The decompressed image signal is displayed from a monitor at the monitoring site.
