The invention relates to a fuel tank, especially for motor vehicles, with a vent line, closable in the event of a maximum fuel level being exceeded or overfilling of the tank, which line is preferably connected to an adsorber device for fuel vapours or fuel. By means of a special design of the vent line the tank is normally kept free of excess pressure. On the other hand an excess pressure can be temporarily built up if the tank is overfilled, which pressure is sufficient to shut off a filler nozzle.
