The invention relates to a device for simulating a strong electromagnetic field in empty space of the EMGT cell type, having a pyramidal cell with rectangular cross-section and with earthed metallic walls, the cell lying on one of its side walls, a metal plate or a septum which is located in an intermediate plane running through the apex of the pyramid and loaded at its end with a 50 OMEGA load, an absorbing wall which closes this cell, and a source which is located at the apex of the pyramid and is connected to the intermediate plate. The intermediate plate contains, in the transverse direction, a planar central part and lateral parts which are inclined downwards relative to the central part by an angle alpha , such that the impedance as seen by the source has a value of 50 OMEGA .
