Rolling mill with means for roll changing

In rolling mills whose lower work roll is at the level of the mill floor, it has hitherto been necessary to free the changing pit provided for changing the back-up rolls from the cover plates which cover it. This was generally accomplished by using cranes to lift off the plates. In order to make this time-consuming removal of the cover plates more efficient, the proposal is to provide the cover plates in the form of pivotable plates and to arrange them between the respective stands and the transversely displaceable support plates bringing about a lateral displacement of the work roll sets.
