A new chemical compound, ketopantoyl aminobutyrate of formula I: <IMG> (I) and its salts. The compound is obtained by interaction of ketopantolactone and a salt of .gamma.-aminobutyric acid. It was shown that the new compound exhibits sedative, anti-amnesic and antihypoxic properties.
