In the case of an evaluation device (10) for signals which are detected by an arrangement for measuring or detecting wetting of a surface (measurement arrangement 11), for producing a control-value and/or measured-value signal (Ms), the result is obtained, by the fact that the signals are detected by clocked interrogation of at least one measurement section (S) and by the fact that the signals detected by the measurement arrangement can be regulated with the aid of a regulating arrangement (12) which regulates signals detected with a variable time constant (Tv, Tv2) in such a way that the difference value of the signal tends towards zero, and by the fact that a device which is controlled as a function of the wetting sweeps over the measurement arrangement (11) at least once per actuation interval and control means (14) adjust the time constant (Tv2) during the sweeping in such a way that the signal, which is produced by the device and optionally by the wetting displaced by the device is largely eliminated, that the sensitivity of such an evaluation device is optimised with regard to the problems occurring in practice (Figure 1). <IMAGE>
