The method regulates the rotation speed of an electric motor (10) by means of which a centrifugally operating machine (6), for example a pump or a fan, is driven, on the basis of the power which is instantaneously required by the load (4). To this end, the respective current intensity of the motor current of the electric motor (10) is measured (14) and is used as an input variable for a regulator (16) which produces an output variable for regulating the rotation speed (12) as a function of the measured current intensity, in accordance with a predetermined characteristic. In this way, the previously known precautions for determining the required power by means of one simple current measurement can be replaced, as a result of which a solution is created which is operationally reliable in the long term and, at the same time, is simple and cost-effective. <IMAGE>
