Non-destructive testing of the integrity of reinforcements in building and construction parts such as bridges, tunnels, concrete ceilings, conveyor belts etc. by magnetic-field measurements is considerably improved if the reinforcements are already magnetised or exist in the magnetised state before their incorporation. Magnetisation carried out to saturation, of which the remanent magnetisation remains after removal of the magnetising field, is particularly expedient. The magnetisation is preferably carried out "in situ" on the construction site with the aid of a device which comprises a magnetising coil having a power supply unit for adjustable power supply and holding or guide elements for passage of the prestressing elements through the coil.
