A method of removal of remains of coatings or coverings adherent to substrates uses an aqueous emulsion containing, in addition to water, (1) aliphatic hydrocarbons containing hydroxyl and/or amino groups, (2) aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or araliphatic halogenated or non-halogenated higher boiling hydrocarbons and (3) one or more emulsifying agents. The emulsion is applied to the substrate after which the adherent remains are removed using a suitable implement. The emulsion and any debris may be washed away after use. The invention is of particular application to the removal of remains of foam materials left adhering to substrates after the removal of foam-backed covering materials. s |
