Structure for joining plate elements and method for joining the same

In plate edge joint a joggled portion (1c) is formed integrally with a general portion (1a) of the first plate element (1) by way of a shoulder (1g) and includes an offset reinforcing portion (1d) having a band-shaped recess (1d) along the shoulder (1g). A major portion (1e) lying closer to the terminal edge (1h) of the joggled portion (1c) than the reinforcing portion (1d) includes a joining surface (1f) to which an edge portion (2c) of the second plate element (2) is joined in a face-to-face contact in such a manner that a gap (4) is defined between, an terminal edge (2b) of the edge portion (2c) and the shoulder (1g) such gap being filled with braze welding material. In the joint shown the recess 1(d) is filled with braze weld material. In an alternative joint the recess 1(d) faces the other way and is not so filled. (Fig 10 not shown).
